HENDERSON, Nev. – In keeping with its tradition of recognizing and honoring the premier marketing, community outreach, sales promotion, and visual merchandizing efforts within the retail real estate industry, the International Council of Shopping Centers, Inc. (ICSC) awarded the Galleria at Sunset with a Gold U.S. MAXI Award in its annual prestigious MAXI Awards competition.

The ICSC U.S. MAXI Awards honor and recognize the premier marketing, community outreach, sales promotions and visual merchandizing programs undertaken solely within the United States by U.S.-based retail real estate professionals and companies. These awards not only enhance and compliment the other industry regional award programs currently offered by ICSC but provide information and insight to the entire retail real estate industry on what it takes to achieve the highest level of recognition in marketing and specialty leasing within the United States.

For complete information on these awards and the winners in these awards, visit www.icsc.org/maxiawards.

The Galleria at Sunset won its award in the Category Integration category, which honors a broadly defined effort and its combined elements to recognize the specific and unique contributions of design, development, operations, finance, leasing, specialty leasing, management, and strategies covered in all of the other categories. The Galleria at Sunset won for its multi-discipline program, “Galleria Library Branch.”

Faced with an economic downturn and one of the center’s anchor tenants closing, the Galleria at Sunset partnered with a non-traditional tenant, the Henderson Libraries, to create the only in-mall library branch in Southern Nevada and provided a traffic-driving and community service oriented use for the center. A Library Lounge cafe-style seating area was added so patrons could enjoy free Wi-Fi and reading materials from the library. Galleria at Sunset is owned and managed by Forest City Enterprises, Inc.

Professional recognition for this award was given to Heather Valera, director of marketing, and Scott Muelrath, general manager of the Galleria at Sunset, as well as Jane Lisy, vice president of marketing, and Paulette Caputo, director of marketing, commercial for Forest City Enterprises.

Winners in the ICSC U.S. MAXI Awards program were announced during the 2010 Fusion Conference, ICSC’s premier conference for shopping center marketing and specialty leasing professionals, on March 2 at the Sheraton Chicago Hotel and Towers in Chicago, Ill.

In addition, the Galleria at Sunset, along with winners from other regional marketing programs, is now finalists in ICSC’s Global Awards competition, the Best-of-the-Best, and is eligible to be named the most outstanding example of shopping center marketing within the retail real estate industry. ICSC’s Best-of-the-Best Awards honors and recognizes the most outstanding examples of shopping center design and development, sustainability, marketing, and community service worldwide. The winners of the Best-of-the-Best Awards will be announced during RECon, ICSC’s annual convention in Las Vegas in May 2010.

Founded in 1957, ICSC is the premier global trade association of the shopping center industry. Its more than 60,000 members in over 90 countries include shopping center owners, developers, managers, marketing specialists, investors, retailers and brokers, as well as academics and public officials.

The Galleria at Sunset opened in 1996 and is anchored by Macy’s, JCPenney, Dillard’s, Kohl’s and Dick’s Sporting Goods. It features premiere retailers such as Coach, bebe, Build-A-Bear Workshop, Gymboree, Buckle, Abercrombie & Fitch, Victoria’s Secret, Brookstone and more and is also home to the Galleria Library. Owned and operated by Forest City Enterprises, the 1,051,000-square-foot complex is the only enclosed mall in Henderson – one of the fastest growing cities in the United States.
